Eucolyptus tereticornis and E grandis are extensivly planted throught India for industrial wood. In their indigenous home, these specie did not develop the natural resistance against the pink disease pathogen, Colicin olmammice In high rainfall areas in India the species have suffered from catastrophic damage due to this disease which occurs indigenously on many hosts in India, The epidemiology and symptoms of the diseas, pathogenicitY of the fungus have been studied. Field trials ShOWed that E. toelliana, E. diglupra, Bischfire jwauniica and Pterocymbium tinctorium among others showed ,good performance and resistant to pink disease to warraot further large scale field trials.- Laboratory Assay of Fungicides against Pink Disease Pathogen

Eleven fungicides were tested in the laboratory to see their relative efficacy and to find out the minimum effective dose for the control of Corticium sumonic or Berk. & Br. At the Institute campus, plantations of Rauvolfia serpentina (Linn.) Benth. ex Kurz, a herbaceous crop of medicinal importance, suffered heavily from a leaf spot disease, caused by Corynespora cassiicola (Berk. & Curt.) Wei, whose pathogenicity was proved by inoculation experiments. Following initial screening of fungicides, fixing the dosage to be used and time of application as to whether they should be applied as prophylactic or curative, field trials were conducted using chemicals at 0.25% solution in water as prophylactic sprays applied six times at monthly intervals from June to November. Of the 4 fungicides tested in the field, only Captan proved effective in controlling the leaf spot disease resulting in significant increase in ischolar_main yield. The net increase in ischolar_main yield per acre in terms of money value was found to be about Rs. 85, Rs. 601 and Rs. 2,222 at the end of first, second and third year respectively.- Trichoderma harzianum Controls Red Rot and Influences Multiplication of Epiricania melanoleuca, an Ectoparasitoid of Pyrilla in Sugarcane Crop

Various formulations of two strains of Trichoderma harzianum (Th 37 and Th 38) were tested in sugarcane crop (CoLk 7701) during 2006-07 and 2007-08 for ascertaining its response on Colletotrichum falcatum, Pyrilla perpusilla and Epiricania melanoleuca. The results indicated that metabolites (2.5%) of Th-37 and Th-38 increased the population of Epiricania cocoons by 136.05% and 95.24%, respectively and reduced the population of Pyrilla nymphs and adults to the tune of 44.92, 29.30 % and 44.92, 36.63 % in Th 37 and Th 38 applied plots, respectively. Regarding red rot, the same treatments increased the control by 36.06 and 36.08%, respectively. Application of T. harzianum indirectly supported the build up of high population of the parasitoid E. melanoleuca for the management of the Pyrilla. Application of T. harzianum enhanced the field availability of nitrogen to the crop and consequently Pyrilla population increased which ultimately influenced the speedy multiplication of Epiricania. It is also inferred that T. harzianum does not have any harmful effect on the parasitoid.Keywords

Groundwater is one of the important sources of potable water. The water table fluctuation method was used to evaluate the annual variations in water level rise and to estimate the groundwater recharge during pre interventions and post interventions phase of Domagor-Pahuj watershed development. The area experiences an average annual rainfall is 880 mm. The estimates of average annual water table fluctuation and change in groundwater storage volume of randomly selected thirty wells of pre-interventions and post-interventions phases of watershed were 3.03 to 4.34 million m3, and 1.52 to 2.18 million m3, respectively. The total annual groundwater recharge potential estimated for the areas was 1.47 million m3 before intervention and 2.06 million m3 after intervention.Keywords
